MDB2SQL automates Microsoft SQL Server support for Microsoft Access-based applications without the need to rewrite your existing code.
Pros: MDB2SQL converts MS Access database to MS SQL Server database. The restructuring required of tables, relations etc are done automatically. Data transfer also is taken care of. MDB2SQL can link all tables in the Microsoft Access database to the tables in Microsoft SQL Server so that you can access data from within your application. Then the whole thing can work as if the package was written for SQL Server to start with. There is no need to rewrite any code. MDB2SQL can quickly and cost-effectively convert your Access (MDB) databases to use SQL Server without changing or writing a single line of code, or relying on cumbersome third-party data migration tools and database drivers. Time to market can be reduced significantly as can be cost of support and development costs. Desktop and web applications that are based on Access can now have SQL Server support added automatically. Significantly improve database and application performance, security and storage capacity. The package supplied includes redistributable binaries.
The user interface wizard lets you set up the connections between the Access and the SQL Server databases and then the rest of the process happens automatically.
Cons: Such solutions will always perform a little worse than when applications are built to work with SQL Server as the back end. This indirect solution could be a good fit for legacy application that needs to be migrated. One should check if the performance penalty is significant or not.
Overall: A nice and handy tool that has a simple interface. This is good for a 3 star rating.
